Like other books in the Fantasy Flight Game FFG library, Star Wars: Edge of the Empire EotE is packed to the brim with information. Coming in at pages, EotE is one of the larger core book that I have seen hit shelves in a while. Like the Warhammer RPG's put out by FFG, detail has been packed into nearly every inch of this massive tome. Edge of the Empire is the first of three core books set to release in the next two years.

This first book EotE focuses on the scum and villainy of the outer rim. The second book, Age of Rebellion is slated for release next year and as of now, is planned to focus on the war and conflict of the galaxy and the core planets. For starters, the book is filled with amazing full color artwork that sets a tone for the type of play that might be experienced in this book. The artwork adds to the feel of the game and in many places, I felt FFG outdid themselves on art design. Even though the artwork is fantastic, there is a fair amount of pictures of Han Solo, Chewbacca and Boba Fett. This is not a huge distraction but something I noticed. The first chapter is titled " Playing the Game". If you have never played the beta or box set, this chapter is a must. It teaches new players how the narrative system works and what each symbol and die means for the game as well as the rather extensive lexicon that goes along with the dice system. This chapter is 25 pages long and will probably have to be read a few times by new players and game masters in order to comfortably move through the book.

The second chapter looks at "character creation". In this chapter we are introduced to obligations which not only give you credits but also grant experience at character creation. Obligations also help build and round out your character's story. Also in this chapter are the playable races. The list being Bothans, Droids, Gand, Humans, Rodian, Trandoshan, Twi'lek and Wookiee's. Each race is fully flushed out and clearly give you enough information on the race for character ideas. After Races comes career paths and their numerous talent trees. The Bounty Hunter Assassin, Gadgeteer, Survivalist The Colonist Doctor, Politico, Scholar , The Explorer Fringer, Scout, Trader, The Hired Gun Bodyguard, Marauder, Mercenary the Smuggler Pilot, Scoundrel, Thief and the Technician Mechanic, Outlaw tech, Slicer There is a lot here to work with. Chapter three looks at "skills" and how they work in EotE. This chapter for the most part speaks for itself.

Every skill is clearly thought out and explained in detail. The next chapter is "Talents". This chapter explains in much more detail the talents that go with career paths from character creation. They help build your character is ways that differ from Skills. Talents may help keep you alive or dodge an attack etc. This chapter is fairly short, just about 19 pages. Chapter five looks at "Gear and Equipment". Ranging from weapons to stimpacks, this chapter is filled with almost every scoundrel tool one could need. Even black market spice and other outlawed items are found within this chapter. It can take awhile to get through this chapter.
